Founder's Message
Samajik Seva Sadan is a local, not for profit, woman lead non-government Organization partnering with indigenous Tribal and Dalits, women, Girls, destitute, village youth, Children and small and marginal farmers with more than 30 years of experience. The Secretary of Samajik Seva Sadan, Ms. Veronica Dung Dung hails from Sundargarh District from a rural back-ground; hence she knows about the indigenous life situation, ground realities and factual condition of traditional agriculture. We realized that as agriculture is the backbone of the Tribal economy, however, its share is continuously decreasing and present condition is alarming. Eventually we also observed that there is a great potential to work in the rural development sector and NRM base livelihoods.
With extreme weather conditions, especially irregular rainfall, are exacerbating water availability for tribal life and livelihoods. Our Ecosystems based Community Adaptation, which continues to be the most promising approach for mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change in the hilly tribal agrarian economies.
This year has been an exciting year for Samajik Seva Sadan in deepening its outreach and engagement with Sustainable Empowerment of Adivasi and Dalits Community in Sundargarh District, Odisha (SEADCSD) in 10 Clusters covering 2 Gram Panchayats of Subdega Block in Sundargarh District, ODISHA. We have been reaching over 951 small farmer families. We have developed, tested and rolled out integrated approaches to help people make agriculture and water management (both surface and ground water) climate resilient, productive and efficient. Together with community and Gram Sabhas we are moving forward to promote water conservation, water harvesting and responsible water use that is socially equitable, environmentally sustainable and economically efficient. Our ecosystem-based activities play a crucial role in harvesting rainwater and regenerating ecosystems. However, for an effective and long-lasting solution to the issues revolving around water, a new water governance and water management paradigm shift is on the move.
We would express our gratitude towards the society that made us what we are right now.
In closing, we would like to thank our well-wishers, donors and friends for supporting us morally, intellectually and financially. Without your generosity and trust, we would not have been able to accomplish what we have. The tens of thousands whose lives you have touched also join us in saying, “Thank You”! And finally, we would like to acknowledge and thank our team members for their hard work and dedication.
Ms. Veronica Dung Dung, Mr. Emmanuel Pathil
